Webservice Privacy Statement

Information gathering

Our web server software generates logfiles of the IP addresses of computers that access this web site and of what files they access. We ask visitors to provide information about themselves in the form of surveys and feedback concerning our software. These web server logs and survey results may be retained for the duration of the research project.

Use of information

We use your IP address and files you access to help diagnose problems with our server and to administer our Web site by identifying (1) which parts of our site are most heavily used, and (2) which portion of our audience comes from within the Harvard network. Furthermore, this information is used to tailor site content to user needs, and to generate aggregate statistical reports. We also use this information to build up a better understanding of where software downloads are originating from (referal field) and link this to other sources of information including, but not limited to, survey results and bug reports. At no time do we disclose site usage, survey results, bug reports, or other information by individual IP addresses. We do not link IP addresses to anything personally identifiable. This means that user sessions may be analyzed, but the users will remain anonymous. We do not disclose any personally identifiable information we gather or develop about our visitors to any third parties for any purpose.

Software Privacy Statement

The P2P software available for download from this website will by default exchange your download history with others. This feature can be disabled by disabling the recommender in the preference menu. We are continously measuring P2P file sharing networks, including but not limited to the Tribler network, for scientific research. While any observations may be linked to other sources of information, no personallly identifiable information will ever be disclosed.

Information gathered will be used exclusively for scientific purposes and never be disclosed to third parties. Only anonymized or aggregated information may be published for scientific purposes. We will never publish any personally identifiable information in any form or function.
